Automotive Valve Lash Adjuster Measurement

This system was designed to perform inspection tasks on automotive valve lash adjuster components. Measurements on many of the product features required the development of specialized probes (in some cases, 2 micron repeatability) and other unique devices required to engage the product and collect critical Go/No-Go measurements. A Stelron P-link chassis was used to provide synchronous motion of the product nests in conjunction with the rise and fall measurement devices. The system is capable of testing 100 parts/minute in a 2 up arrangement and passed the R&R (Reliability & Repeatability) testing for each station with 3% or better averages for each process.

Allied Automation developed this gauge to measure a  recessed groove within the part. As the probe bottoms out with the part bore, a secondary drive pin positions (3) carbide balls against the groove wall. A Sony depth gage coupled to the drive pin records the measurement.

Many of the systems we design require this innovative approach to solve complex reliable gauging problems when off-the-self solutions are not available or don't "fit" as a viable solution.
